Bahía Mita Vacations

Best Beaches in the Banderas Bay

The Bahía de Banderas, or "Bay of the Flags", is best known for it's white sand beaches, crystal clear blue water, diverse marine life and excellent surf among other attractions. Located on Mexico's Pacific coast, the bay is a popular destination for tourists seeking a tropical paradise. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, whale watching, and fishing. The surrounding towns, such as Puerto Vallarta, Punta de Mita and Sayulita, offer vibrant nightlife, delicious dining options and cultural experiences.

Whether you're looking to relax on the beach or engage in adventurous activities, the Bahía de Banderas has something for everyone!

Playa El Anclote & Playa Mita

First on our list of best beaches to visit in the bay are both located right in the village of Punta de Mita.

•Playa El Anclote is located on the northern end of the Punta de Mita village. Parking is easily available and with 3 minutes walk, you’ll be ready to surf. This end of the Punta de Mita beach features several bars and restaurants so it's a perfect place to bring your family along. They’ll have plenty of activities to do while you surf and you can also take advantage of it to refresh between rides.

•Playa Mita is located in the heart of the town and is a great break for beginners and people just learning how to surf. There are plenty of board rental and lesson options right on the beach and a sandy bottom swimmable area as well as beach chair and umbrella rentals for those who do not want to surf or SUP. If you are in the water, keep your eyes open for a sea turtle passing by!

Playa La Lancha

Next on our list of best beaches in the bay would be Playa La Lancha.

•La Lancha is a pristine white sand beach with turquoise warm waters throughout the entire year and several wave options to ride. Playa La Lancha is a beginners, intermediates and long-boarders paradise. Although there are nearby resorts, the path to get to the beach is a short hike through the jungle and when you arrive to the beach there is no infrastructure, no bars or restaurants, no beach chair rentals, umbrellas or vendors. Playa La Lancha is one of the most consistent surf breaks in the  area and is a top choice to take surf classes surrounded by nature and wildlife.

Playa Litibú

•Playa Litibú is located in the town of Higuera Blanca and is still a beautiful unspoiled virgin beach. While the waves and currents here can occasionally be too strong to swim, it is the perfect beach for a picnic and sunning or a relaxing walk along the over two mile long flat coastline. Another great bonus to Playa Litibú is that it is also a sea turtle sanctuary and during the Fall months they have public sea turtle releases almost every evening!
